The past three days now myself and every Mariner fans have had to watch as the Cleveland Indians rip our team a new asshole. The first two games ended in heartbreaking ways, both games were won with a walk off hits by the Indians and then today Felix was bashed around for 6 runs, his worse outing of the season. In a week where Brendan Ryan has seemed to finally find his swing the Mariners are hitting 1 for 20 in the series with the Indians. If this team, who has the potential to be a .500 or better team, wants to have a shot at the Wild Card or in that fact the playoffs all together, they have to learn to hit with runners in scoring position.
Michael Saunders has cooled down dramatically as well on this road trip going 3 for 23 and lowering his batting average by 39 points. A big positive on this road trip for the Mariners has been Brendan Ryan, who has raised his batting average an incredible 51 points and hit his first homerun of the year. Raul Ibanez has also been another huge story for the Mariners on this road by hitting 5 homeruns and raising his average 32 points.
The Mariners have a big problem, other then the cant hit with runners in scoring position problem, the other big problem is the Mariners 3, 4, and 5 pitchers. Brandon Maurer can not seem to be consistent and he continues to have control and location problems. The Mariners manager Eric Wedge has to quit making excuses for him and send him back in the minors and call up Jeremy Bonderman, who has a great deal more experience then Maurer and he has better control. Another pitching problem the Mariners have is Joe Saunders failure to win on the road and only be successful at home. Saunders is plain horrible on the road posting an 0-4 record in 5 starts with a 11.25 ERA.
Not only is Aaron Harang a problem that needs no explanation, the other problem is some of our bullpen guys. Charlie Furbush and Lucas Luegte have been terrible out of the bullpen. Luegte has only pitched in 7 innings and has posted a 9.00 ERA. Furbush has appeared in 17 games and has posted a 4.11 ERA and has blown 1 save. Im hoping that in the next few days that the Mariners can improve on most of their problems. Tomorrow Hisashi Iwakuma will try and get the Mariners at least one win in this 4 game series.
I live and breathe Seattle teams and sports in general. I am about to go the University of Washington for a communications in radio broadcasting degree and right now i wanna show people i want to be apart of the Mariners, Seahawks, Sonics, and Sounders by writing and broadcasting their games.
I would love to see Bonderman back in the bigs. Been a fan of his since way back in the day, and would like to see if he can revive his stalled career. Loads of talent, however, seldom overcomes human frailties. Still, you never know. And he'd have to be at least as good (or slightly better) a choice than Maurer.
