Mike Morse ate his Wheaties today as in both the bottom of the 4th and 5th inning he showed off his power again! Hitting two long blast today and hitting a double. Beast Mode (as he's called) went 3-3 today and he scored 3 runs to boot with his 2 HRs, 5 RBIs, and a double. Now i cant just talk about Morse other wise this would be a boring blog. Kendrys Morales and Justin Smoak both doubled home a run as well. Now before the bottom of an inning there is always a top. 22-year old Brandon Maurer came in to work. Now this kid is having one strong spring training and may make the Opening Day 25 man roster! Maurer went 4 innings striking out 4 and not giving up a run.
In his return from the World Baseball Classic Oliver Perez kept the game at 7-7 by throwing a scoreless 9th inning. Carlos Peguero lead off the bottom half of the 9th by striking out. Peguero had a tough day today going 0-4 and striking out twice. But i dont think he's really that worried about it cause his spring training batting average only dropped to only .324........wait what?! Yeah i typed that correctly, Peguero has been tearing the cover off the ball this spring. The Mariners then decided to send a pinch hitter up for Jesus Sucre and they chose their 1st round pick Mike Zunino who hasn't been hitting all that much this spring training. Well like i said with Mike Morse, Zunino ate his Wheaties today to! Zunino swung and crushed the ball and the Mariners won in walk off fashion winning 8-7!
Today's win pushed the Mariners spring training record to 12-7. Tomorrow the Mariners have split squad games. Jeremy Bonderman and Jon Garland will take the mound and and are scheduled throw 4 innings. Bonderman will be facing the Angels and Garland will have and interesting opponent......the Netherlands! The first time the Mariners had split squad games they spilt the games winning one and losing the other maybe they will have better luck this time.
